Tips to Improve your ranking in search engines.

  • Make sure your homepage content mentions your services, as well as the local areas you service.
  • Google won’t know what you can provide customers unless you say it on your website, so if you’re a yoga studio offering hot yoga classes, make sure to include that as content on one of your pages.
  • SEO isn’t something that you can “set and forget.” If you’ve added all of your content, wait until it gets indexed and see how it ranks, then make changes to improve.
  • If you wish to rank higher for a certain keyword, make sure those keywords and variations exist on your homepage, as well as other internal pages.
  • List your business on Google My Business (https://www.google.com/business/)
  • Share links to your websites on social media. Note: Sharing links to your website on another website creates what is known as a Blacklink. These are a vote of confidence from one website to another. They help tell search engines your content is valuable.
  • Consider creating new blog posts to talk about your business and services. Search engines reward websites that publish new content regularly.

Sitemaps 

The LiveEdit platform automatically creates a sitemap.xml file for you. This file is used by search engines to quickly check your website for new content and to update its indexes accordingly. These sitemap files are automatically updated and cannot be customized at this time.  

To see your website's sitemap, please add the following at the end of your domain name: 

  • Main Sitemap - /sitemap.xml
    Shows all sitemaps that exist within your website.
  • Pages Sitemap - /pages_sitemap.xml
    Shows all pages generated by users that search engines can crawl.
    Pages marked “Hide this page from search engines” will be removed from this sitemap.
  • Blog Sitemap - /blog_sitemap.xml
    Shows all blog posts that exist within your website. 

Robots.txt 

A robots.txt file is an element of your website read by search engine crawlers to identify what pages you wish to have crawled and indexed. This is set by default, but if you wish to provide a custom robots.txt file, you may do so through Account Settings.

Canonical URL 

A canonical URL is the URL of the page that Google thinks is most representative of a set of duplicate pages on your site. If you have multiple pages on your website that contain the same information, it’s best practice to set a “definitive version” by adding a canonical URL. This can be done via the Pages section. On the LiveEdit Platform, Canonical URLs are automatically set to themselves, meaning /about is canonical to /about.
